README FIRST
The NetWare Migration Utility v1.0 available on NetWare Express
and NetWire, are the first in a series of releases. This utility
is intended to make your upgrade from NetWare v2.1x or v2.2 to
v3.11 easier. The future versions of the migration utility will
allow you to go from v2.x or v3.x to v3.11 or v4.0.
Documentation is available both in ASCII text and default postscript
formats. The ASCII documentation is compressed in the MIGRATE.ZIP file
and the postscripts are in the file MANUALPS.ZIP and must be downloaded
separately.
Release Notes
-------------
A) Make sure that the shell you use (NET3, NET4, NET5, or
NETX.COM) is version 3.0a or later. The latest versions
of the shell are available either on NetWire or NetWare
Express.
B) Users on the source server whose accounts are locked
because their
1) Account balance has fallen below the low credit
limit;
2) Intruder Detection logins have been used up;
3) Grace logins have expired,
may find that after migration, these situations are
preserved on the destination server. These users can't
login. We recommend that you review the users on the
source server and resolve the above listed situations
prior to the migration.
C) If you use the Migration Utility with NetWare Name
Service, you can
1) Migrate from a domain server to a non-domain
server.
No special procedure is required. Use the
Across-the-Wire migration option as documented.
2) Migrate from a non-domain server to a domain
server.
The destination server (the NNS server) must be
removed from its domain before the migration takes
place.
a. Remove the destination server from its domain.
Follow the instructions under "Delete domain
servers" on page 101 of the "Name Service"
manual.
b. Run the migration utility as documented for the
Across-the-Wire option.
c. If data files were migrated, reinstall the NNS
utilities on the destination server.
d. Add the source server back into the domain.
Follow the instructions on page 98 of the "Name
Service" manual.
e. Resynchronize the domain.
Follow the instructions on page 103 of the "Name
Service" manual.
